All thunderstorms are dangerous because every thunderstorm produces lightning.
For aircraft and wind turbines, lightning strikes can be exceptionally dangerous; however, because of stringent and mandated safety measures, they seldom result in extensive damage. The most effective lightning strike protection system includes embedding a fine expanded metal micromesh within the surface layers throughout an aircraft or within the nacelle and blades of a wind turbine.
This white paper will discuss the effects of lightning strikes, preventative measures, and how using expanded metal micromesh can limit the damage.
