Choosing the right product to protect rooftop solar panels

Solar Panel Skirting Spring has returned! Snow is melting, flowers are blooming, and the sun has returned. With more daylight, the busy season for solar installations has begun.

In our previous solar panels blog, we explained why you should add a protective skirting around the base of rooftop arrays- primarily to prevent damage from nesting animals and birds. In this blog, we will explain the advantages of using expanded metal over other options for protective skirting:

Strong and Secure
Expanded metal is manufactured from one sheet. Instead of punched to produce the openings, it is simultaneously cut and stretched with no joints or welds that can separate.

Cost Advantage
Since it is cut and stretched instead of punched to produce the openings, the typical yield of finished product from raw material is 3-1, and oftentimes greater. In addition, since no post-manufacturing processes such as welds or additives are required, costs are further reduced over other options such as woven or welded wires.

Decortive Designs
Expanded metal designs are not limited to a standard diamond-shaped pattern. Unlike other options that are limited to one design, there are many decorative patterns available to complement existing architectural elements. It can also be powder coated, painted, or be formed from different metals such as aluminum, steel, and copper.
