Strong and lightweight, expanded metal can be found in many industries. But did you know that these same qualities make it an excellent choice for use in architecture? Here are three examples:

Decorative Accents
Drawing upon its industrial roots, expanded metal features a diamond-shaped array that can be formed into decorative patterns– adding a dramatic flair to any project. Common ornamental uses include doors, ceilings panels, light shades, room dividers, furniture, gates, inlays, and more.

Railing and Stairs
The safety of a building’s occupants is paramount and incorporating the proper materials into its construction helps reduce many hazards. The inherent strength and anti-slip qualities make expanded metal excellent for use as stairs, railings, walkways, and more.

Façades and Louvers
Because of its aesthetics, these are the most commonly used architectural applications. It provides privacy, reduces air conditioning requirements, and simultaneously controls light while maximizing outward visibility.

ADVANTAGES OF EXPANDED METAL FOR ARCHITECTURE
Also known as Architectural or Decorative Mesh, it is both lightweight and incredibly strong. Formed from a single sheet of metal with no joints or welds that can separate, it offers a superior strength-to-weight ratio that both protects and decorates. It can be made from different metals and post-production applications such as powder coating can be applied. Unlike perforated metals or woven wires, there is no waste which can help you earn LEED credits.
